Why Inquiry?
Inquiry in math is meant to get students thinking about math concepts in a deeper way. Curiosity in math is very valuable to overall understanding. A sense of wonder about math concepts should be encouraged and rewarded.
How do I choose a Unique Inquiry Question?
Your starter question should be a mathematical question. You might find that your question is a science question or an education question or something else. To ensure that your question is dealing with a mathematical topic, it should fall under one of these Big Idea categories:
Numbers and counting
What special relationships are there between numbers? |
Computation and operations
How do we take normal math operations and apply them to situations like algebra? |
Patterns and relations
Where are the predictable patterns here, or how does one variable affect another? |
Geometry and measurement
How do we use shape, size and proportions to determine useful information? |
Data and probability
How do we collect and use data to make sense of situations or to analyze change? |
